New 2023 AC And Heating Efficiency Requirements

As long as your air conditioner and heater turn on when they’re supposed to, there’s nothing to worry about, right? The fact is, your HVAC system is held to standards of efficiency. These standards are in place not only to save you on your utilities, but also to extend your appliance’s lifespan and use less resources.

Here at Aire Serv Heating & Air Conditioning, we put our customers first. Let us install an efficient air conditioner or heater in your Fort Worth home. Looking for more information? Read on to learn about the latest AC and heat pump efficiency ratings – the SEER2 standard.

The SEER2 Standard

Since 2015, the minimum efficiency for AC equipment has been set at 14 SEER by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Effective January 1, 2023, all air conditioning units are being manufactured with new required standards.

AC units, heat pumps and ductless mini splits are required to rate more efficiently than ever before. The latest models have to rate one unit higher — 15 SEER —  for all regions to meet federal minimum standards.

When you need a new, more efficient heating or cooling system for your Fort Worth home, look no further than the team at Aire Serv. With our installation and maintenance services, you can live comfortably in your home knowing your AC and heater are working as efficiently as possible, season after season. Save money on your monthly energy bills and enjoy consistent climate control with help from our trained technicians. Ready to get started? Reach out to us today!

What Is SEER?

Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio, SEER, is a measurement of your air conditioner’s efficiency. As the acronym suggests, this measurement spans the course of a cooling season. This rating ranges from 12-13 SEER to a maximum of 21-25 SEER. The higher the rating, the higher the system’s efficiency.

There are other factors that come into play with regard to finding the best system for your space. While investing in the unit with the highest rating may seem like the most logical thing to do, you may wind up losing efficiency if the unit is the wrong size. When it comes to your AC installation, it’s important to take into account the size of your home, the size of the unit and its SEER rating.

What To Know Before Your Heater Installation

Air conditioning units aren’t the only appliances with efficiency ratings. The efficiency of your furnace also affects your indoor comfort and monthly expenses. By understanding your system’s Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) value, you can better understand how well your heater is running. AFUE is a percentage based on how much fuel is used to produce an amount of heat – usually measured in BTUs (British thermal units).

New furnaces have an efficiency label that tells you its AFUE so you can predict how much you’ll be spending to run that system annually. Older heaters may not be rated. In fact, some older units may not even come equipped with fans. Armed with both a SEER rating and AFUE value, you can determine whether or not it’s time for a new HVAC installation.

Efficiency Rating By Location

How well your heating and cooling system functions depends on location – both the proximity to your home and geographically. It’s very important that your system is installed professionally to ensure its efficiency and safety. The team at Aire Serv is here to install your HVAC system correctly – which means going above and beyond deciding which wall fits your unit best.

Efficiency ratings vary depending on where your home is located geographically, too. For our Fort Worth customers, a minimum AC SEER rating of 15 is required. That’s different for Northern states, where the latest minimum SEER rating for AC systems can be one point lower. Heat Pumps – measured by SEER ratings – have the same minimum requirement of 14 regardless of where you live.
